Columbia Ice Fields

The Columbia Ice Fields are another remarkable sight. At the Athabasca Glacier in Jasper National Park you can get out of your vehicle and in a few moments walk directly onto the glacier. You can see the vehicles down below in the top picture. Mount Snow Dome, part of this ice field, is a triple divide. Everyone has been over the 'continental divide' where waters run either to the West or to the East. Snow Dome is a triple divide because it feeds to the Arctic Ocean, to the Pacific through the Columbia River, and to the Atlantic by way of the Hudson Bay. Those busses are quite the deal too. They have six-wheel drive, and you can book a trip to take you out on the ice fields. We didn't, partly because it was a pretty crappy day. Cold and wet. Such a sight though, and the visitor center is very nice.

Hi You 2,
We are enjoying your interesting comments and pictures very much! Were thrilled to see the Athabasca Glacier, Lake Louise and Banff as we enjoyed the beauty there in the early 90's. I remember walking on the glacier and taking some pictures from the very same spots. Brings back great memories! I think we went to Athabasca Falls which looked a lot like Johnson Falls.
How's the price of gas? Keep safe and well.
Love, George and Wilma
