Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE, BC

We got into Prince George on a Friday, June 6th. The blossoms were on a tree in the RV park we stayed at. The tree was absolutely loaded. We didn’t spend much time out looking at them, the mosquitoes were thick. The next day we went to see the Forestry and Train museum. I’m including the information signs along with the picture of the objects. You can click on the information signs and they will get big enough to read the information. I had never thought about the fact that they would harvest pine cones before they fell to the ground.

On the next picture it explains about the electric engine. What a massive engine! It was a 50 kilovolt electric engine built in 1980. It was only in use for about 19 years. It was clean burning, so it could be used in the mining tunnels. Do you recognize the engineer?

Another unusual display was the old snowplow. You can probably see from the picture that a great deal of it was wood. It was finally replaced by the steel plows in 1950. It seemed strange to us that steel wouldn’t have replaced the wood before then.

There was a parking lot next to this museum that served as a city park. We stayed in that lot 2 nights. Really quiet the 1st night, but nite 2 we had some rowdies come and park next to us. They smoked some pot and shot off a pistol. It was either a pellet or bb gun. Those things didn't bother us as much as the really loud music!

The final picture was at the annual Forestry Expo. We saw some really huge equipment there. It was all fascinating but a little out of our league. Of course “Tim the Tool Man Taylor the II” loved it all. They demonstrated an all-in-one portable lumber maker. No picture included here. Wow that was fascinating. It could make any size lumber (computer helped) out of logs right at the build site. We really enjoyed the chain saw carving competition. I’ve included a picture of the one I thought should have won. Don’t know if it did but it was my choice. It was so smooth and precise. Nothing like most we’ve seen in the past.

Gary Sez: This town was named after my brother. Prince. The park Eloise mentioned we stayed was named “Hartway” RV park. It was supposed to have had Wi-Fi. E went down and asked if it needed to be re-set because we couldn’t pick up a signal. They checked and said it was ok. E went down and sat at a picnic table just outside the office and still couldn’t get it. Our assigned site was really unlevel. I had to park backwards so our front end was jacked way up (don’t like to have the rear end up if can avoid) and sling the electric cord under the rig. Couldn’t hook into the sewer because of that. Didn’t like that park much.
