We are saddened to say that Carl Moore, who is in several of these pictures, has passed away from lung cancer and brain tumor. His wife, Pat, is retiring the motorhome, and will be living in Detroit for the near time. His death was cruelly rapid. He will be missed by us and his many friends.
Before getting to Duluth we were staying at the BAD RIVER CASINO, just east of Ashland, WI. They offered free parking with free electricity and water! During the 3 days we stayed there we drove into Ashland and biked their very nice trails. We were also able to do some geocaching (we're now over 1500 finds), and some dining out of course! The hike/bike trail is paved for numerous miles. Behind my bike is a part of the city RV Park and it's beach area. Top picture is same vicinity, just farther along.
There was Northland College in town, established in 1892. Two geocaches were hidden on the premises, they just about wore us out getting to them in a forested area!
Before getting to the casino, we stayed in a city park in Wakefield, WI., adjacent to Sunday Lake. There was a riding path around the entire lake and we spent a very pleasant week. A highlight was that during the last 2 days there, we were joined by our friends Pat and Carl Moore, whom we had earlier spent a delightful week with at their 'getaway' in Tomahawk, WI. They showed us such a terrific time, we'll never be able to repay them. They were so generous to have provided us with the full hook-ups that they generally use themselves. (Our rig is the farther back one).
The Tomahawk 4th of July parade was a lot larger than we had anticipated. There were 4 bands, lots of horses and way many fire vehicles!
One of the last things we did before we left Tomahawk was to visit the Harley Davidson plant, where they make the windshields and other parts for the Harley's. Side cars used to be made here, but have been eliminated from the Harley line-up. Here we pose on the very last side car made. There are various after market side cars available from other manufacturers though.
This side-car is signed by all the factory workers, as the last one made.
Here are Pat and Eloise enjoying a lap around on an unusual "Bar Stool" vehicle. These are pretty unusual, and there are bar stool races --- we didn't get to see.
