Getting Ready
Although we live in a very comfortable late model 40 foot long diesel pusher motorhome, we've decided to renovate an older and much smaller 'Class C' type especially for our trip to the far North. It is a 1977 Tioga, 22', powered by a Chevy 400 cid. We got it very cheap, and it is evident it wasn't worth even as much as what we paid! We have now fixed the leaky rear oil seals, replaced the brake shoes, fixed the leaky tranny and put on a Winegard TV Antenna. The engine seems to run strong, and we're hopeful the 115k on it isn't the end of it's life. Inside we added an outlet for a TV and booster, repaired broken drawers, reinforced the retracting step, rewired the stereo speakers and cleaned 30 years worth of dirt out of it. This isn't going to be the "lap of luxury" kind of trip, rather we'll concentrate on scenery and wildlife, not nightlife! There'll be no 'toad' car behind, our only vehicle will be the Tioga. Pictures of the Tioga will probably coincide with our heading out in early May, after Eloise's new digital camera arrives from B&H Camera Store ordered on-line just this evening! The purpose of this blog is to let our family and friends tune in to what we're doing and where we're at, but if your a stranger and find our travels interesting, let us hear from you too. We will be using a Verizon Air Card for internet connection whenever we can receive a signal. Connectivity is going to be one of the big unknowns. Although we are seasoned travelers, we are still excited to be heading out for one of the two states we haven't traveled. (Alaska and somehow we missed Rhode Island.)
